Acupuncture Helps to Stop Smoking

"After quite a few years trying to stop smoking using all the traditional methods i.e. patches, gum, going to smoke cessation clinics nothing worked!! I was getting ready to go to Allen Carr's clinic in Marlborough where he guaranteed 1 session and you will stop smoking, but, the destination was a long way away, and I didn't really believe that 1 session would cure me and I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money for something that may work.

I then saw a sign in town advertising stop smoking using acupuncture. I came home, looked on the internet for a practice near me and found Su at Enerqi, not far from where I live. I emailed Su and asked for her advice. She recommended that it would take at least 6 sessions for me to stop smoking, so I decided to make an appointment. My first appointment was amazing. Su has a very calm and gentle manner which made me trust her straight away. When I left Su and went home, I felt so calm, it was a lovely feeling. It was exactly 6 sessions and I just stopped smoking, but even better than that, I never felt so well in my life; my skin had improved, I didn't feel bloated anymore, and my motivation increased. After my sixth session with Su, I went to college and enrolled on an Access course - something which I wanted to do but didn't think I could.
 
Since session 6 when I stopped smoking, I have been back to see Su, it’s just a lovely way to treat yourself holistically - my whole body benefits from acupuncture and I would recommend it to anyone who feels slightly unwell - the energy your body receives from the treatment is inestimable, I never would have thought that having needles put into your body would make you feel so calm. I come away feeling that I can cope with anything.

Su has really changed my life, all my friends say I am like a new person; more confident, I'm definitely more healthy and have more of a zest for life. I have just finished my first term at college, its been hard but thanks to Su its been possible.

"For a number of years my health had been gradually declining and I had major problems with sinuses and catarrh. Nothing seemed to stop the continual running of catarrh down the back of my throat and the endless coughing. The visits to the NHS seemed to achieve nothing, even with hospital appointments, then a friend suggested acupuncture. Being a sceptical middle aged bloke I eventually plucked up the courage to go for
a discussion with Su.

She seemed to take an interest into every aspect of my health (questions not asked within the NHS), and I embarked upon a course of acupuncture and herbal medicine for around a year. I knew that the acupuncture was doing something as the evening after a session and the next day I felt very different, however it was not achieving the correct remedy. So I sat down with Su and said I did not think that my health was improving from the visits and I would stop. She agreed and told me that unless I made some lifestyle changes now, and sorted my chest area out, it might be too late!

You see I was a smoker, and despite her advice to stop smoking, I still had not stopped. However, she really got me thinking about my future and in the end I decided to quit smoking. I went to the NHS stop smoking clinic, got a fabulous book (not free), set a date, read the book and stopped smoking on that date with no aids or help.

I have not smoked for a year now, coughing stopped within 2 days and sinus issues went away very quickly. I was able to breathe at last plus many other benefits.

Had I not had that advice I might still be suffering. Thanks Su but you did yourself out of a grateful customer."

"I am writing this at 21 weeks and 3 days pregnant – that is so good to write as it has been a journey to get here. When I married my partner that I met at University we were 30 and knew we were ready to start a family. So the journey began back in 2006, just married we gave up contraception with the view that it would happen when it was right – if it did happen quickly we were ready! Quickly, well that definitely wasn’t the case. In the back of my mind I had a hunch it may not be plain sailing as when I was a teenager I never had regular periods and the doctor’s solution was to put me on the pill which at the time seemed a sensible option.

So after a year of trying and thinking we will get pregnant at some point I began to worry. My periods were irregular – anything from 35 days to 84 days. So off to the GP we went. We understood we had to follow a little flow diagram of tests and questions before we could be referred to a consultant. After 3-4 months of horrible tests and no real conclusions except I was irregular, we were finally referred to the consultant. December 2008 we had our initial consultation and she said it was very obvious that I potentially had Polycystic Ovaries due to irregular periods. The consultant added me to the waiting list for the operation. February 2009 I had my operation and the outcome was Polycystic ovaries plus an old cyst on my right ovary. I was all clear and the consultant was sure we would be pregnant in 3 months – what a fab feeling.

And we were pregnant in 3 months, she was right. What a surreal moment to realise we were actually pregnant after all this time – but then 4 days after finding out, things started to go wrong and 2 weeks later (7 weeks pregnant) we found out we had miscarried. After a horrible 2 months we were ready to think about starting to try again. Four months passed and nothing and it was time to see the consultant again. The next option was Clomid, but it didn’t feel right as I was now ovulating regularly. My friend who is a complementary medicine practitioner suggested acupuncture. I was determined to try something other than this drug.

I looked on the Internet and the Enerqi website clearly expressed the experience in fertility treatment so I called and spoke to Su, who I instantly felt comfortable with. I was booked in for the next week.

Following 3 months of treatments for both myself and my husband we had the amazing news that we were pregnant. At the start we were so nervous, but being able to continue with treatments in the first 3 months of pregnancy was so important.
Not only do we believe that the acupuncture made a huge difference, as I could see the obvious impact such as the shortening of my cycle, but Su spent time talking to us to understand how we were feeling emotionally as well as health wise, and this was invaluable! I don’t really believe in regrets, but I do often think why we didn’t think of this earlier – but then that special feeling we have for our baby has been magnified by our journey to get here.

I have heard various stories to date about friends of friends who have been trying for a while and I always say ‘have you considered acupuncture?’.

We can’t thank Su enough as we cannot explain the feeling of excitement we have to meet our own little special one, that will grow and blossom into their very own person."

"After having problems with long menstrual cycles after taking the pill, I began to see Su as I felt frustrated with my GP for not taking more interest. Su paid attention to my body as a whole, and not just what I considered to be my 'problem area'. At first I felt unsure about the treatments but after a short period of time my skin started to clear up and my sciatica disappeared. I realised that my health problems could be linked and began to enjoy the treatments. As pregnancy was the ultimate goal I felt excited when I missed my period. Unfortunately, I wasn't pregnant. In this time the GP referred me to a hospital fertility specialist. When I informed them that I was having acupuncture the doctor was sympathetic but said that she didn't believe acupuncture could sort my problems out!

I felt despondent but Su remained positive and told me it wasn't unusual for the body to miss a cycle as it prepares to restart itself. This seemed to be true as my period came bang on time and the following cycle I was pregnant! I admit to feeling a little smug when I was able to ring the hospital to tell them I didn't need their medication.

I now have a wonderful daughter, my periods returned by themselves and were regular and I am now expecting my second baby in June! Everything is going well and I am grateful to Su for her support and positivity.

"After seeing a fertility consultant, it became obvious that my endometrium was too thin to enable implantation , at only 2mm, so even though I had many positive pregnancy tests, within a week I would bleed. When I did become pregnant (twice) by 10 weeks, I was told that the babies were not viable (NO HEARTBEAT).

My cycles were all over the place, some long, some very short, and my period had become very light only lasting 2-or 3 days. I was experiencing hot flushes at night, and had gained weight. After your treatments I not only felt relaxed and less stressed, but the hot flushes stopped and my periods lasted approximately 1 day longer.

I had been charting my temperatures and they were spiking all over the place. With your help my temps became normal enough to predict ovulation and indeed due to this I know to the day when my gorgeous daughter was conceived !! Once pregnant I was prescribed progesterone by my consultant to maintain the pregnancy."

"My husband and I had tried unsuccessfully to conceive for over 8 years. After 1 unsuccessful course of Clomid, we were told the only other option available to us was IVF, and we were referred to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford. I had been treated by Su for non fertility related problems for some time prior to my IVF cycle and the treatments I received were highly beneficial to my conditions.

When I started the IVF cycle, I saw Su regularly for treatments. Ten eggs were collected - of which eight fertilised. Two were implanted and four were suitable for freezing. The two week wait between embryo transfer and the pregnancy test were long and difficult - which I believe was due to the my increased hormone levels and the strong drugs that were used. I continued to see Su for treatments throughout and always felt calm and relaxed after each treatment. I was delighted when I learned my first cycle was successful and my 6 week scan showed I was expecting twins!

I have no doubt that my IVF cycle would not have been successful had it not been for the acupuncture treatment I received and I would definitely recommend any couple going through IVF to contact Su."

"My husband and I had always wanted to start a family. I had been on the contraceptive pill for about 10 years and decided to come off it in April 2006 to start trying for a baby. My periods didn’t return and after 6 months I decided to try reflexology to give things a helping hand. I felt this worked for me and after an intense course of treatment over 7 weeks my periods returned in December. We relocated to Wiltshire in January 2007, my periods were few and far between and ovulation tests were always negative and I was concerned after medical appointments that in the end I would be prescribed drugs to help with this- something that I felt quite uncomfortable about.
